About Lefkada

Lefkada and its smaller islands (Scorpios, Meganisi, Sparti, Madouri,Kastos and Kalamos) are an unspoilt paradise, waiting to be discovered. It is the 4th in size of the 7 Ionian Islands.

Aristotle Onassis, the Greek tycoon, discovered the delights of Lefkada when, 45 years ago, he bought the island of Scorpios after looking all over the world for his own island paradise.

The beautiful island of Lefkada is just 40 km long and 20 km wide. Its majestic green mountains, covered with pine and cypress forests, and its pretty sandy beaches are a joy to explore. Friendly people will welcome you in the forty or more small villages perched high on the slopes or hidden inside fertile valleys carpeted with wild flowers and herbs, olive, lemon and orange groves. The crystal clear turquoise seas are an irresistible invitation to all visitors for a cooling swim.

The main tourist center is the cosmopolitan Nidri.

The best beaches are – Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma, Gira, Agios Yiannis, Pefkoulia, Milos beach, Perigiali, Nidri, Vasiliki, Agiofili,Gialos, Mikros Gialos, Passa and Nikiana.

Lefkada is also renowned for its cuisine, both Greek and international, and many local specialities are served in restaurants and tavernas. Produce of the island includes air-dried salami, olive oil, oregano, lentils, honey, fish and wine.

Road – Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a floating movable bridge. This means that access is very easy by road from Preveza airport which is only 20 km from the main town of Lefkada.
